9TH WONDER & BUCHSHOT - THE FORMULA

These dudes got a nice interview over at okayplayer.com . It's defintiely worth checking out.
Here's a snippet of what 9th Wonder had to say about "Adult Contemorary Hip Hop":
Breaking down the meaning of “Adult contemporary hip-hop”:
There’s a big chunk of hip-hop music that only now adults know about. And when I mean adults, I mean young adults. Folks who just got they first house, who just got they first job. Or who are really getting into their 30’s. Living in their 30’s and really understanding mortgages and IRA’s and all of that. Now we’re in a situation that they know these records. Shook Ones is a record that is known by 30-plus black women across America. That’s the thing. My wife bought Illmatic when she was in college. You understand? And she’s a black woman. These records that we talk about and that we herald so much, man, they’re records for adults. If you don’t believe me, I teach a class, and when I say Busta Rhymes, my students are like, ‘He’s old….’ They’re 21. Busta’s 30-what? You know what I’m saying? They look at Busta Rhymes the same way I looked at Cameo when I was 14, 15, or 16. The saaame way. It’s a myth that everybody in rap world, all ages, listens to all of the music in the rap world. We don’t. Adult contemporary hip-hop is hip-hop and it’s for adults.

?UESTLOVE SPEAKS

Over at OnSmash.com, they have an insightful interview with ?uestlove of the Roots. He speaks on his crew and the state of the game.
Here's a quote:
"Hip-hop is about as apolitical as it’s ever been. I guess there’s some sort of unsaid science to how we made this record. In order not to come off like we’re on our soapbox we knew that musically this album had to be bangin’. But of course the 2008 definition of bangin’ definitely varies from the 1996 definition of bangin’, but that’s the standard with which we feel most comfortable. So there’s this sort of boom bap element [on the album]. At the very most today when you get a hip-hop record you can only hope for that one cut that has that “boom bap element”, similar to how what the one radio cut was back in the day, like Brand Nubian’s “Tried To Do Me” or Diamond D “I’m So Confused” song. One token radio cut on a hip-hop record now turned into one Primo cut on a commercial record [in 2008]."

That last sentence, real talk....such a shame though.

Video Music Box 25th Anniversary Concert

Yep..you see what the title says. That's right Uncle Ralph is having a summer concert celebrating 25 years of Video Music Box!!! I know many of us grew up watching that show, especially those in the NY, NJ, CT area. No word yet on the performing line up, but word is it's going to be crazy! Here's some info:
Friday, July 18, 2008 From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Central Park SummerStage

The influence of "Video Music Box" stretches far and wide, as the show is one of the first and longest running outlets for Hip-Hop since the genre’s inception. Twenty-five years after its debut, Ralph McDaniels hosts a celebration concert featuring performances by a who's who of hip-hop icons from the series’ illustrious history.

Just reading that statement makes me think..who hasn't been on Video Music Box!?!? You know the show is gonna be serious. I'm there! no question.
I will give an update on this as soon as I found out who will be performing. For those of you who live in the area or will be in the area this summer, make sure you find yourself at this event.
